━━ WHAT IS THE SPECIAL ACCESS SCHEME?
The Special Access Scheme (SAS) is a regulatory framework administered by the Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA) that allows patients to access medicines, medical devices, and biologicals that are not registered on the Australian Register of Therapeutic Goods (ARTG).SAS is designed for patients for whom no suitable registered alternative exists. Access requires a valid prescription and, depending on the category, prior approval from the TGA.
━━ WHO CAN INITIATE SAS ACCESS?
A registered medical practitioner (or in some cases, a nurse practitioner or dentist) must prescribe and, where required, apply to the TGA on behalf of their patient. Our pharmacists can support both prescribers and patients through this process.
